Background

Major Duties and Responsibilities of the Directorate

The Academic Programs Directorate shall:

  • Lead the development, revision, and harmonization of academic programs in line with national frameworks and institutional priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with Ministry of Education standards, accreditation requirements, and quality assurance frameworks.
  • Oversee curriculum design, modularization, and implementation, ensuring alignment with learning outcomes and graduate profiles.
  • Establish and monitor program review and quality assurance systems (periodic review, tracer studies, external evaluation).
  • Coordinate program accreditation, re-accreditation, and audit processes.
  • Monitor key academic performance indicators such as enrollment, retention, graduation rates, and employability outcomes.
  • Provide strategic support for staff development related to curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment practices.
  • Strengthen linkages between academic programs and the labor market, industry, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Facilitate student academic progression policies, including placement, mobility, and grievance handling frameworks (not day-to-day case handling).
  • Support evidence-based planning, budgeting, and resource allocation for academic programs.
  • Ensure proper implementation of national reforms (e.g., modular curriculum, credit system, competency-based education where applicable).
  • Serve as a liaison with government bodies, accreditation agencies, and external partners.
  • Contribute to institutional strategic planning, policy development, and academic reform initiatives.

Duties of Directorate Units

Deliverology and Teacher Development Coordination Unit

Is responsible for:

  • Coordinating implementation of institutional academic reforms and ensuring delivery of strategic academic targets.
  • Liaising with the Ministry of Education on policy implementation, innovation, and performance tracking.
  • Designing and coordinating staff capacity-building programs in pedagogy, curriculum design, and assessment.
  • Leading graduate tracer studies, employability initiatives, and industry linkage programs.
  • Facilitating collaboration with colleges, departments, and external stakeholders to enhance program outcomes.
  • Organizing workshops, seminars, and training aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness and impact of academic interventions and development programs.

Freshman Program Coordination Unit

Is responsible for:

  • Coordinating the design and implementation of first-year (common/freshman) programs in alignment with national frameworks.
  • Ensuring consistency, quality, and standardization of freshman courses across colleges.
  • Supporting and training instructors delivering first-year courses.
  • Monitoring teaching effectiveness and student performance in freshman programs.
  • Collaborating with departments to ensure smooth student placement into fields of study based on national guidelines.
  • Ensuring integration of cross-cutting skills (e.g., critical thinking, communication, digital literacy).
  • Preparing periodic performance and improvement reports on freshman program delivery.
  • Ensuring alignment with Ministry of Education directives and institutional strategy.
