Department of Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Launched in 2009 E.C., the Department of Logistics and Supply Chain Management operates under the College of Business and Economics at Adigrat University. The university, founded in 2011, is one of Ethiopia’s public higher education institutions committed to delivering quality education, conducting research, and providing community services to foster socio-economic development. The Department of Logistics and Supply Chain Management was created to address Ethiopia’s growing need for professionals who can manage complex supply chains and logistics systems efficiently. Its mission is to equip students with practical knowledge and analytical skills in logistics, procurement, transportation, inventory management, and global supply chain strategies. Graduates are prepared for impactful careers in manufacturing, trade, transportation, public administration, and international business.
Since its inception, the department has been actively engaged in:
- Teaching and Learning: Delivering specialized courses and common courses for freshman students.
- Research and Innovation: Conducting studies that contribute to the advancement of logistics and supply chain practices in Ethiopia.
- Community Service: Providing consultancy and training to local businesses and organizations.
- Professional Development: Supporting faculty and students in continuous skill enhancement.
Staff Profile
The Department of Logistics and Supply Chain Management has a committed and growing team of academic professionals. Initially, the department started with four staff members. Today, it has seven staff members, as shown in the following table. This profile is dynamic, as many staff members are currently pursuing higher qualifications and are expected to advance to the next academic ranks soon.

The mission of the Department of Logistics and Supply Chain Management is to produce competent professionals and internationally recognized researchers who excel in quality teaching, conduct impactful research, and deliver a wide range of community services. The department is committed to equipping graduates with practical skills and ethical values to meet the dynamic demands of global and local supply chains.
Vision
The vision of the Department of Logistics and Supply Chain Management aligns with that of Adigrat University and the College of Business and Economics. The department aspires to become an internationally recognized center of excellence in logistics and supply chain management, producing graduates who are innovative, responsible, and capable of addressing complex supply chain challenges while contributing to Ethiopia’s economic growth and global competitiveness.
Program Objective
The objective of this program is to produce Logistics and Supply Chain Management professionals for all types of organizations.
General Objectives
The program is generally designed to produce well qualified, competent, responsible and ethical logisticians and supply chain management experts who will work in public, business, and non-governmental organizations. In addition, the graduates of the program will play significant roles in Ethiopia‘s economic, social and political endeavors.
Specific Objectives
Specifically, the program is designed:
- To produce academically qualified and competent graduates with updated
Knowledge in the field of logistics and supply management.
- Enable students to develop production planning and scheduling
- To produce qualified individuals who can design, plan, and manage supply chain operations
- To graduate professionals who can strategically coordinate activities of
- Production, inventory, purchasing, transportation, and warehousing with in company and across business within the supply chain.
- Enable students to handle both domestic and foreign purchasing
- To equip learners with the basic principles and procedures of Banking and
- Customs clearance activities.
- To produce qualified professionals who can effectively design transportation system.
- To produce professionals who can manage store operations and design and
- implement inventory control systems; lead negotiation team;
- To advance knowledge of logistics and supply chain management through research

In today‘s competitive environment, managing the supply chain and effectively controlling supply chain costs is critical for every business. Then, this will create a demand for employees with current skills and knowledge on how to effectively manage the supply chain. This program could provide graduates with a solid grounding in important business skills and knowledge.
