Adigrat University Delivers Second Round of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Training.

As part of its large-scale project “Healing the Wounds of War: Delivering Comprehensive Mental Health and Psychosocial Support,” funded by the University’s recurrent budget, Adigrat University has delivered a second round of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) training to 32 participants.

The session was opened by Dr. Haftay Gebreyesus, Director of the Research, Publication, and Ethics Directorate, who highlighted the importance of MHPSS in the University’s research and community engagement activities. The training was led by Dr. Teklebrhan Berhe, Principal Investigator, along with co-investigators Mr. Daniel Kidanemariyam, Mr. Kiros Kidanemariam, Mr. Hagos Mehari, and Ms. Biruktawit Abraham.

The program utilized the Professional Intervention Program for Adversity (PIPA) to address trauma, stress, and other mental health challenges while strengthening coping skills and psychosocial resilience.

All 32 participants (27 males and 5 females) completed the training, which was delivered through structured group sessions by trained psychotherapists and counselors. Pre- and post-assessment results showed that 84% of participants experienced a significant reduction in distress levels (PCL-5).

Overall, the training effectively supported participants’ psychological well-being and improved their ability to manage daily activities.
